In March 2011 Quadron was delighted to learn that St. Lukes Gardens had been awarded a Silver Award in the first ever Mayor's Safer Park Awards.
The Award recognises and promotes new and existing good practice in tackling anti-social behaviour in London Parks and, to achieve the Silver Award, achievement had to be demonstrated in areas such as community involvement in the park's upkeep, clear procedures for responding to issues and concerns and an improvement in levels of antisocial behaviour and perceived safety levels.
As the Application Factsheet (right) illustrates, in the Summer of 2010 St. Lukes Gardens had experienced problems with anti-social behaviour by some young people but, following the initiation of a Problem Solving Profile in partnership with the Royal Boroughs Park Police Service reports of disorder in the park have reduced dramatically.
The measures undertaken included engaging closely with local residents in order to encourage them to report incidents and maintaining a visible presence in the park. Alec Eadie, St. Lukes Lead Gardener has also been praised for his local knowledge and enthusiasm for the park as well as being a familiar and visible presence and has also been nominated for a (RBKC) Mayor's Award for Public Service.
The Award was presented on Friday 13th May at a ceremony at City Hall. Pictured below with the Silver Award is Quadron's Alec Eadie with Inspector Mike Rumble and Constable Jan Caccione from The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Parks Police.
