In March 2011, Quadron was delighted to learn that two of Southwark's Parks had gained awards in the first Mayor's Safer Parks Awards, with Russia Dock Woodland achieving Silver and Burgess Park, Bronze.
The Award recognises and promotes new and existing good practice in tackling anti-social behaviour in London Parks and, to achieve these awards, achievement had to be demonstrated in areas such as community involvement in the upkeep of the park, clear procedures for dealing with responding to issues and concerns and an improvement in levels of antisocial behaviour and perceived safety levels.
Quadron's on-site staff work closely with user groups to enhance and maintain Russia Dock Woodland, which is widely used by the community, also providing a familiar presence which can add to a feeling of safety for users.

Burgess Park, the largest park in Southwark, has recently seen the introduction of a Head Gardener and Apprentice and the park is soon to undergo a 6 million pound redevelopment. Recent improvements have seen the previously densely populated shrub beds reduced to create safer walkways for park users.

Simon Cummins, Senior Contract Manager for Southwark, commented "These awards are as a result of the hard work of the friends groups at Russia Dock Woodland and Burgess Park working together with local community and user groups to ensure safer and more welcoming parks and open spaces."
