The past 12 months have seen two significant staff promotions within the Southwark Contract: Terry Burns has been promoted to the role of Contract Manager and Lynne Olding has stepped into the position of Head Gardener at Southwark Park. Terry and Lynne have over 30 years of service between them working on the Southwark Parks Contract.
Terry Burns began his career within Grounds Maintenance in 1994, aged 18, as an operative on the Dulwich Mobile Team where he gained a wealth of hands-on experience carrying out grass cutting and other grounds maintenance duties.
Terry continued his progression by enrolling on courses that were available at work as well as evening classes to aid his personal development.
Whilst working with the incumbent contractor Terry was promoted to Mobile Team Leader which meant more responsibility, including managing his own team of two staff.
In 2003 Quadron was awarded the grounds maintenance contract to maintain all parks within The Borough of Southwark and Terry earned another promotion, this time to Contract Supervisor for the Southwark Area. Terry continued in this role until his much deserved promotion to Contract Manager in January 2010.
Terry has also successfully completed an NVQ 3 in Amenity Horticulture and has just started the Chartered Management Institute Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership.
Lynne Olding began her career in 1996 as a litter picker when her children started school. Lynne soon developed a passion for horticulture and moved into a Gardener position. Her determination and skill was apparent to all and Lynne was made Team Leader of Southwark Park in 1999.
Lynne successfully completed an NVQ 2 in Amenity Horticulture in 2005, along with various in-house training courses which led to her promotion to Head Gardener at Southwark Park in 2010.
She is currently completing an NVQ 3 in Amenity Horticulture, as well as mentoring an Horticultural Apprentice, designing and planting bedding schemes and enhancing horticultural excellence within the park in her role as Head Gardener.
Lynne has developed into a key member of the Southwark Park team and is always available to pass on her knowledge and experience to members of the team, as well as being a familiar and friendly face to all park users and visitors.
