Ward End Park New Win 2010!
Quadron's Horticultural & Development Manager for its contracts with Birmingham City Council, Nicola Little, received thanks and praise from the Council and the Friends of Ward End Park following her hard work creating the park's management plan which led to the successful award of a prestigious Green Flag for the site. The Green Flag is bestowed in recognition for excellence in park maintenance and management.
Quadron's Contract Manager for Hodge Hill, Tony Jones, stated that this was a fantastic achievement for all staff involved with Ward End Park and a great reward especially for Park Keeper John Howe who has worked hard over the past year in raising standards and promoting a real sense of community spirit within the park.
Thrilled to be awarded the prestigious Green Flag - Constituency Parks Manager, Pat Tarry, with the Quadron Team, including Nicola Little and Tony Jones (middle).
The news was greeted with sheer delight by the Friends of Ward End Park and both the Constituency Director for Hodge Hill, Rob James, and Neighbourhood Manager for Ward End and Pelham, Christy Acton, who have all worked hard in helping to raise the profile of the Park as a great recreational asset. Christy said, "the residents in the local area are very proud to have won the Green Flag award for Ward End Park. The park is a great space for our community that we all make use of. It's really nice that this has been recognised and will spur us on to make further improvements."
A party in the park event was held on 28th July, 2010 to celebrate this special occasion. Activities included sporting displays from local teenagers who had taken part in the Street Games programme and a tour of the Community Garden where the Friends of Ward End Park help local school children to grow their own vegetables and flowers.
Moonlit and Sunset Parks New Win 2009!: Situated in the newly refurbished suburb of Attwood Green, these parks are the result of extensive consultation with residents, Optima Community Association and Birmingham City Council and won the National Landscape Institute Award in 2008 for innovative design.
Quadron has worked with local interest groups, the Council and Optima to sponsor and assist with community events in the parks since taking over their management in 2009. The Parks are excellent examples of a local park development which provides facilities for both passive and active recreation, with formal games areas as well as grassland for informal play. In addition there are trees, shrubs and flower beds, hard and soft landscaping and communal areas to strike a fine balance between enhancing the site's visual appeal and biodiversity value and encouraging community use.
Quadron hopes that its focus on community engagement in addition to high horticultural standards will continue to increase the appeal of the parks year on year.
