English Heritage

Quadron have been delighted to provide a continuous service to English Heritage since 1996 following the privatisation of their direct employed labour.  As Specialist Maintenance Contractor, we cover many of their sites from Cornwall to Oxford and the Isle of Wight.  Our duties include specialist repair to the historic fabric through to the routine maintenance and repair which enable the sites to function on a day to day basis.  We also respond to any emergencies which may occur.

Our skilled craftsmen carry out sensitive conservation work which often includes working on delicate stone details, preserving as much of the original fabric as possible.  We have unrivalled technical skills and modern project management techniques to ensure that we can meet the most exacting standards, on time and on budget on every occasion. Environmentally aware, our staff will consolidate and repair an historic building, recognising and preserving its natural flora and fauna.

Although there is no typical day for the Conservation team, jobs may include a boat trip across the Solent to Hurst Castle or, on a smaller scale, accessing and cleaning the moat at Fort Brockhurst in a small dinghy.  We may also be called to carry out repairs to one of the last remaining donkey wheels in the country at Carisbrooke Castle on the Isle of Wight or setting up a hoist and cable to carry materials from the mainland to Tintagel Castle.

We can also be asked to facilitate weddings, events and royal visits on the sites we are responsible for and because the sites are open to the public, we are often asked to carry out works to enable our client to comply with the Direct Disabled Access (DDA) regulations.

Sites at which Quadron provides specialist maintenance include:

Pendennis Castle, Cornwall

This is one of our busier sites where we regularly carry out works and where, in the past, we have carried out extensive conservation works including SPAB repairs to the timber windows, stone repairs and plaster consolidation.

Berry Pomeroy Castle, Devon

Quadron have recently been awarded a contract to renew oak lintels to the kitchen block, together with masonry repairs and soft capping to the wall tops.  We also carry out the day to day maintenance and repairs to the Castle.

The Grange, Northington

Following the render failure and partial collapse of the Portico ceiling at The Grange, we were asked to carry out urgent repairs to avoid further damage.

Osborne House, Isle of Wight
