Quadron has operated Mendip District Council's Grounds Care contract since 1995 and successfully retendered it in 2001 for an eight year period, which has just been extended for a further two years.
The contract includes grounds maintenance throughout the district, arboriculture, parks, grave-digging & cemeteries including the burial process, children's play areas, tree surveys & management of tree stock and street furniture stock management.
This is a formal Partnership/Best Value arrangement with output based specification and self-monitoring procedures. The open book accounting and profit share arrangement has seen a regular annual amount returned to the Council. Efficiency savings and the lower overheads incurred towards the end of a contract term have resulted in a reduction in contract price in 2009.
Mendip enjoys regular success in the South West and Mendip in Bloom competitions: in 2008 Wells scored Gold and Frome, Shepton Mallet, Glastonbury and Street all scored Silver Gilt. Frome also won three community awards at merit level.
Quadron has also introduced Train to Gain schemes into the contract, with twelve employees currently studying for NVQ level 2 in Amenity Horticulture in order to enhance their horticultural skills levels.
