The Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea

BALI 2008 Multiple Site Principal Award Winner

In January 2008, Quadron was very proud to be awarded The Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea's Grounds Maintenance contract for a second term.

The new twelve year partnering contract includes managing and maintaining the prestigious green flag accredited Holland Park with its famous Kyoto Japanese gardens, social services sites throughout the Borough, and all parks and gardens, cemeteries and grave digging, maintenance of sports pitches, shrub, flower and rose bed maintenance, parks patrol and security, building cleansing and sports management including booking services.

The successful development of the contract since Quadron first took over its operation in 2002 can be attributable in part to the introduction of a strengthened operational management team, supported by Quadron's compliance team who focused on improving service delivery through the development of CORMS, Quadron's ISO 9001 accredited Contract Management System.

Further best practices introduced include the adoption of a partnership ethos with open book accounting and quarterly meetings held to review contract performance. Regular meetings are held with interested parties such as Friends Of groups and sports leagues to ensure that all their interests are taken into consideration in the management of the contract. The success of the partnership derives from the continual strengthening of the relationship between all the stakeholders involved through working closely together to achieve joint aims.

Quadron has introduced a very successful apprenticeship programme into this contract as well as making Train to Gain opportunities available to its full time workforce to increase their horticultural skills.

As testimony to the improvement of service provision, The Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea has had consistently high results in both London in Bloom and Britain in Bloom competitions, winning gold in London in Bloom in 2008 and 2007. Holland Park has successfully retained its Green Flag status for many years now, and Kensington Memorial Park gained its first award in 2007.

2008's success as the Multiple Site Principal Award Winner in the National BALI Awards underpins the achievements made to date throughout the whole borough. This was an accolade to all and testimony to the commitment shown over the past few years by client and contractor staff as well as all other stakeholders.

BALI judges commented that "The most impressive element of this entry is the sheer enthusiasm of the team that maintains the open spaces and parks of the borough and this is reflected in the very high standard of maintenance".
